Meet Jekyll, meet Hyde. This season there will be two beastly passenger snowcats waiting to take a dozen powder hunters each to the furthest reaches of our biggest terrain.
The Monster terrain boasts nine double-black diamond runs and plenty of unnamed lines in between. Wild things find their happy place here, amongst the steeps, open faces and seemingly endless glades.
Now, don't make the mistake of thinking that this is a guided cat-skiing experience. It's not. Instead think of the Monster X snowcats like a really cool shuttle service to some extraordinary, big mountain terrain that you'll want to lap again and again, and the Monster X makes that way easier.
Temperatures and snow conditions permitting, Monster X will open Thursday to Sunday 10 AM - 2:45 PM to March (snow conditions permitting), along with additional holiday Mondays. Monster X may be delayed or may not operate due to very cold temperatures or snow safety work in Taynton Bowl. Please see the trail report for what terrain is currently open.
On Saturdays and Sundays both Monster X cats will be running in tandem to shuttle you to the Monster Plateau.
Have a cohort that is looking for an incredible day? You and up to 12 friends can have a Monster X snowcat all to yourself for the day to get you from the Ktunaxa pick up point to the top of The Monster (Goldie Plateau) starting in January. This program will be offered Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday (excluding holiday periods). The Monster X snowcats will run just as normal but on your day it is just your cohort using it which guarantees it will be warm and waiting for you as soon as you get back up to Ktunaxa. Lap Taynton Bowl's Monster terrain as many times as you want from 10 AM until 3 PM (Last Pick Up at 2:45 PM). You will be required to have a valid lift ticket or lift pass for the day in addition to the Private Cat experience. Must be booked a minimum of 7 days in advance.

No, Monster X is more like a shuttle service. It transports guests out to our furthest terrain on the Eastern side of Taynton Bowl. Our staff are happy to give you some info and pointers about the terrain out there but they aren't guides. You're on your own once Monster X drops you off.
A Monster X ticket or pass is just to ride the snowcat. You will also need a valid lift ticket or pass to be able to access the slopes.
The pick up for Monster X is at Kinbasket in Taynton Bowl. To reach the pick up point you will have a walk/ski along Outback Ridge for around 20-30 minutes. Outback Ridge starts at the summit of Panorama. To access the summit you will take three chairlifts. From the village to the Monster X pick up location please allow yourself 40-50 minutes.
The drop off point for Monster X is at the top of the Goldie Plateau. It is around a 10 minute ride from the pick up to the drop point.
Monster X cycles from the Never Never Land entrance on Outback Ridge to the highest point on Goldie Plateau. A one-way trip takes about 10 minutes.
From the village to the drop off point on Goldie Plateau allow yourself about an hour. To get back to the village from Goldie Plateau will take roughly 45 minutes depending on the run you choose and how confident a skier or snowboarder you are.
Yes, you are welcome to hike or ski tour out to the terrain that Monster X accesses. There is no cost for this but you do still need to have a valid lift ticket. Please at all times be aware of the snowcat as it passes you and give it plenty of room to easily get by you.
Your Monster X single ride or 4 pack tickets are valid for the entire season and are transferable (season passes are not transferable). If you don't use your ticket on the day you anticipated just keep it for another day.
The minimum age for a Monster X ticket is 6 years. The terrain Monster X accesses is for expert skiers only. It is big, steep and predominantly gladed terrain with hazards like cliffs and drops. You need to be strong and confident riding this terrain before you venture out on Monster X.
You can practice in the nearer side of Taynton Bowl to gain confidence in this terrain before venturing out to the Monster runs.
