MEDIA RELEASE
Last winter, Panorama Mountain Resort recorded its busiest snow season in more than a decade. On the back of this continued growth, and an extremely strong summer, the resort is again spending millions to enhance the guest experience.
“Over the past few years our investments have largely been on the mountain and at Greywolf Golf Course.” said Steve Paccagnan, Panorama’s President and CEO, “We’re focused on ensuring the experience on our slopes always exceeds the expectations of skiers and riders, so we’ve been busy on the mountain again this year. That same level of quality, fun and excitement will be seen in the village too, with close to $2 million spent on superb new culinary establishments.”
Opening in December, two brand new outlets will bring a heightened level of elegance and sophistication to the resort’s dining scene. Panorama has partnered with award-winning design team, FRANK Architecture & Interiors to create the stylish spaces. Based in Calgary, FRANK are credited with designing some of that city’s top restaurants and bars.
Lead by Executive Chef Vincent Stufano, Alto Kitchen & Bar will plate up rustic Italian style pizza from a striking Forno Bravo oven, the centerpiece of the restaurant, along with a diverse menu that will satisfy the most avid foodie at breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Fireside Café & Lounge will serve up locally roasted coffee and crave worthy baked goods by day and transition to a laid-back wine lounge by night.
Canada’s first snowcat food-truck, Snowlicious, will serve up mitten approved hot food and cold beer right on the slopes. A gourmet meat pie bakery will also open this season.
Panorama continues to expand its offering of freeski terrain off the summit with another four runs and plenty more unnamed lines added this season. The new runs are part of Panorama’s Monster terrain and are located on the far side of Taynton Bowl, a 750-acre zone of in-bounds backcountry style terrain. The area gets its name from a steep, open pitch at the centre of the terrain christened, The Monster, by locals many years ago.
The area is accessible by the Monster X, a 13 seat passenger snowcat that provides paid shuttle rides to the highest point of the terrain.
Panorama will welcome athletes from around the world when it hosts the World Junior Alpine Skiing Championships in just over two years. It is the first time the event has been held in Western Canada. Preparation is underway and the resort will host the first of several important events in the lead up to the 2022 World Championships, beginning with the Canadian National Alpine Championships, March 25 – 29, 2020 which will see Canada’s top athletes compete across Olympic disciplines in alpine ski racing.
In a time of resort consolidation, Panorama Mountain Resort remains privately owned and fiercely independent. This stance allows the resort to put their guests first when considering developments and future improvements.
Aside from the investment into new terrain and dining, the resort continues to invest in the latest snowmaking technology, new snowcats with another Prinoth groomer added to their fleet this season, earthworks to improve several popular trails and comprehensive summer slope maintenance.
Panorama will open exclusively for alpine race training on November 8, and will host national teams from Canada, Switzerland, France, Slovenia and Chile. The resort will open to the public December 6, 2019 – April 12, 2020.
