Opening day is here! All lifts except the Summit Chair will turn on December 9. Snowmaking has been in fine form and there’s plenty of grippy corduroy to be found down the front of the mountain with favourites like Skyline, Rollercoaster, Fritz and Out Rider all available for your carving thrills.
There’s a good base and wall-to-wall coverage on the main runs off Mile 1, the Champagne Express and in the beginner zone (Discovery Quad, Silver Platter and carpets).
For those looking to venture off the machine-made trails, Founder’s and Sun Bowl will be open. Conditions are early season on any un-groomed runs as the snow pack is unconsolidated and baseless. You’ll find Sun Bowl the smoother option after extensive mowing and trail improvements this past summer, but still be mindful of what’s under the snow and ski with care.
The Village Gondola will open at 8:30 AM with all other lifts opening at 9 AM.
In the Nordic area, Placer to Great Scott junction is groomed for both skate and classic, along with Paradox and Connector. Conditions are early season too so be mindful of hazards. Multi-use trails - Village View, Mineral King, Creekside and Fairway will all be open. For Fat Bikers, Mineral King has been groomed with the Snowdog to the Pentagon Hut.
Keep an eye on the forecast and your snow dance going. It looks like a mix of sunshine and scattered flurries over the weekend, with temperatures delightfully in the single digit negatives. See you out there with your carving skis!
Mainly cloudy with isolated flurries.
Freezing level: 1600 metres.
Ridge wind north: 10-25 km/h.
